Novice Trainer Willow Osbeck

Name Willow Osbeck

Position Trainer

Rank Novice Trainer

Character Information

Gender Female
Age 12
Date of Birth November 29, 1975

Physical Appearance

Hair Color Reddish-Brown
Eye Color Green
Physical Description Willow Osbeck can best be summarized as tall and sinewy, already standing at 5’4” (her parents are evidently surprised that she shot up as quickly as she did) and weighing in at around 115 pounds (unlike other girls, she’s not concerned about her weight); her build isn’t quite muscular, but it’s enough that she’s confident she could hold her own in a tussle. Due to the amount of time she’s spent outside, she’s begun to develop freckles around her eyes and nose, though she wears them with tomboyish pride.

Willow doesn’t consider herself to be a typical “girly girl” and prefers to wear more comfortable, outdoorsy wear, though her attire of choice is most typically a tan bush vest over a red flannel shirt, with blue jeans and leather hiking boots with red laces. Her backpack of choice- for carrying all her hiking supplies and Pokémon-related items is a red Jansport D3, gifted to her by her uncle for her 9th birthday.

Family

Family Members -Fjord Osbeck (Father)
-Zelda Osbeck (Mother)
-Isak Larsson (Maternal Uncle- missing, presumed deceased)

Personality & Traits

Personality Overview Willow Osbeck is something of a free spirit, untethered by what her finansvalp parents expect her to become and forging her own path instead. With her parents working all the time, she often found herself in the company of her Uncle, Isak Larsson— a hippie who had completely disconnected from the urban world and embraced the natural beauty of the greater Erehwon Region. Having no kids himself, he forged something of a special bond with Willow, spending long weekends out in the wilderness, hunting Shiny Pokémon, and spinning many a mesmerizing tale of his adventures. It was through this close relationship with her Uncle that Willow came to develop a love of nature, and despite her parents’ wishes for her to go into a more stable corporate job, she has absolutely no interest in following in their footsteps. This friction with her parents has led her to becoming bull-headed in what she wants, and she isn’t above digging her heels in to defend her position. Her parents don’t seem to understand why she’s so stubborn, and their disconnect has led to her being grounded on more than one occasion, but it does little to chip away at her overall determination. Unfortunately, this dissonance has only increased following Uncle Isak’s sudden disappearance, with him no longer serving as the bridge between them.
Drive With her Uncle Isak’s disappearance a year ago, and authorities no closer to locating him, Willow’s decided to take matters into her own hands and set off on her Pokémon journey with hopes of finding some closure for the man she considers to be more of a father to her than her actual father.
Anchor Uncle Isak’s hippie friends (Manfrid & Tove Liljegren, Jhonas Curlin, and Humfrid & Freida Lindell)- Uncle Isak always believed in keeping an open door, and his friends were always welcome to come and go as they pleased, whether their roof was leaking and they needed a place to stay, or they just needed to blow off steam after getting into a fight. Subsequently, it was through this open-door policy that Willow came to be acquainted with the Liljegrens, Jhonas, and the Lindells, and the nurturing environment that they fostered has led her to view them as something of an extended family, to the point where she refers to them as “extra” Uncles and Aunts.
Problem Bracing for the worst- Willow has her suspicions that her Uncle Isak is already deceased, and half-dreads the moment when his body is located. She wouldn’t dare let her fears show because she wouldn’t want to be considered “weak” and “cowardly” (that’s not her style), but her concerns about what she’ll find are enough to keep her up at night.
Pride “Since when did a few scrapes ever stop me?”- having spent a good chunk of her life camping in the wilderness with her Uncle Isak, be it rain or shine, sun or snow, Willow likes to believe that she’s become inured to the worst that Mother Nature has to throw at her. Thunderstorms? No sweat. Blizzards? Unlikely to faze her. Wild Pokémon attacks? Bring it on. She’s not entirely stupid and knows when it’s the right time to seek safety, but her Uncle Isak has trained her well in preparing- both physically and mentally- for worst case scenarios.
Favourite Song "You're Lost Little Girl" by Siouxsie and The Banshees
Iconic Item Her Jansport D3- a ninth birthday gift from her Uncle Isak, this hiking backpack has become something of a lifeline for her on all her latest camping expeditions, with space aplenty for tents, cooking utensils, repels, potions, revives, heals, and all myriad of supplies she needs to survive the rigors of the wilderness. The one thing she’s been bad about bringing is odor-eliminating sprays, as she and her uncle are used to coming back from a weeklong expedition smelling six shades of ripe. However, now that she’s been lumped in with a group of relative strangers who have no desire to smell her body odor, she’s been attempting to get somewhat better at it and stock up on sprays at the local Poké-Mart.

Pokemon 1

Pokemon Species Torchic
Type(s) Fire
Ability Blaze- Amplifies the power of Torchic’s Fire-Type moves by 50% if Torchic is at low health.
Gender (if applicable) Male
Personality Description Torchic was something of a strategic choice for Willow, hinging on three major factors; for one, Torchics possess a flame sac in their belly that generates a substantial amount of heat, which could be invaluable for long nights out in the cold. Second is their ability to learn (Via technical cassette) the move Fire Spin- a damage-dealing move that momentarily prevents a target from escaping- ideal for catching Pokémon that may be of specific interest to Willow, especially shinies. Third is the fact that Torchic eventually evolves into Blaziken and gains a dual Fire-Fighting type, offering it multiple advantages that would not be gained elsewhere such as the ability to gather supplies, clear paths, construct shelters, and even help start a campfire if Willow herself is unable to get one going.

However, all the careful planning that Willow made factoring into this decision didn’t help to prepare her for the fact that her Torchic is a bit of a moron, easily getting side-tracked by things that interest him in a given moment- whether this be wandering off when her back’s turned to becoming ornery whenever he feels the need to be fed. He’s also not particularly useful at night (as Torchics historically suffer from Retinitis Pigmentosa, and their nocturnal eyesight does not improve until their evolution into Combusken), meaning that anything Willow wants to get done- at least until she catches herself another Pokémon- has to be done before sunset.

Despite all these shortcomings, however, Willow can’t help but feel somewhat endeared to Torchic for all his quirks- it’s the first Pokémon that she’s been able to call her own, and she feels something of a kinship to his free-spirited nature.
